Backdrop Beer

Finding the best places to sip a cold one.

Netil 360, London

Marketing itself as ‘East London’s Rooftop,’ Netil360 had a lot to live up to. I’d been waiting patiently for a sunny afternoon in order to give it the best chance to shine. On Friday 25th May 2018, conditions were perfect.

The Pub / Venue

Ever thirsty, I whizzed up the 7 flights of stairs in no time, eager to get my hands on a cold pint and check out the much anticipated view…

Backdrop

A refreshing fact about Netil360 is that the name isn’t misleading – it genuinely has 360 degree views of the cityscape with both Canary Wharf and the City clearly visible in the distance. The immediate surroundings aren’t particularly stunning and this is reflected by the score. That said, for East London, it’s definitely worth checking out. There is a clear view of the sunset and, when the sun does go down, the lights of Canary Wharf and the City are mesmerising. Score 2.5/5.

Seating

There are a number of seating areas on the roof (with some inside if required) – all are available on a first come first serve basis (their website advises arriving around 14:00 on popular days if you have a large group). If you manage to get hold of one of the leather chairs areas, you’ll be in for a comfortable afternoon. Score: 4/5

Atmosphere

The best thing about Netil360 is the atmosphere. Fresh pint in hand, wandering across the decking, it quickly became clear that the ambience was spot on. On the evening I visited, they were playing a strong variety of lounge, house and hip-hop at the perfect volume. With smiles all-round, I couldn’t help but feel my mood lift as the combination of backdrop, beer and atmosphere really got to work. The sunset was about as good as you’ll get in London with no obstacles and a clear view – after dark, the volume of the music increased slightly as people began to fire up. Score: 4.5/5

Beer

With regards to beer, Netil360 is currently offering 2 draft beers (Truman’s Raw Tank Lager & Five Points Pale Ale), a draft cider (Cote Breton Cidre) and a selection of craft cans. I went for a pint of Raw Tank, it hit the mark in terms of temperature but I wasn’t overly enthusiastic about the plastic cup. There was a fair queue at the bar all evening but with plenty of staff this was never an issue – the average serving time (AST) was under 2 minutes

Summary

With a solid view of our dear capital, basking in sun and surrounded by happy people – the first sip was certainly memorable.
