Askla Viewpoint – Alesund, Norway

One of Ålesund’s stunning attractions, the Askla viewpoint at the top of ‘Town Mountain’ gives panoramic view of the archipelago, the beautiful town centre, and the amazing Sunnmøre Alps.

To go up to Aksla you can either take the 418 steps that go up from the Town Park or you can drive Borgundfjordveien/Fjelltunveien all the way up.

The Pub / Venue

Fjellstua, which is situated at the top, has got an outdoor restaurant, café, and a platform to enjoy the view. 

Backdrop

We settled in for a cold (and predictably pricey) half pint, sat back, and relaxed. In terms of backdrop, this beer will take some beating. The seating, views and beer temperature conspired to make it a truly memorable experience. 5/5

Seating

Five or six (4-seater) picnic benches in prime spots with an unencumbered view of the city. An absolutely sensational spot if you can secure one. 5/5.

Atmosphere

Obviously very touristy, the atmosphere is what you make it. We were so excited to sip a cold one in such a stunning place that the lack of atmosphere had zero impact on the experience. My score is 3/5 (would score 2/5 if the backdrop hadn’t brought the whole experience together in such a magnificent way).

Beer

Slim pickings really but a cold, over-priced lager did the trick. No regrets. Amazing experience.
